Edwin Gear is an experienced business and technology leader with a background in FMCG, retail, logistics, and enterprise IT. He has held executive roles across a range of organisations in New Zealand, Australia, South Africa, and the United States, with a focus on operational transformation, technology modernisation, and building effective partnerships. From 2019 to 2024, Edwin was the Chief Information Officer at The Warehouse Group, where he was responsible for leading a $140M+ technology transformation programme. His work included stabilising and simplifying IT operations, improving system reliability, and supporting the company’s shift to real-time digital retail. He also helped transition the IT function to an AGILE operating model and oversaw the implementation of key enterprise platforms such as Oracle Fusion, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, and Manhattan WMS. Prior to that, Edwin served as CIO at Metcash Trading Limited in Sydney, where he led a multi-year technology roadmap to update legacy systems, introduce digital B2B platforms, and reduce operating costs through a combination of internal capability development and strategic outsourcing. Earlier in his career, Edwin worked in senior roles at Foodstuffs Wellington, Mitre10 New Zealand, and Super Group Pty Ltd. His responsibilities included restructuring merchandising functions, improving sourcing and supply chain processes, and overseeing IT and organisational change initiatives. He also spent time in private equity and enterprise software, including global R&D leadership at FRONTRANGE Solutions. Edwin holds a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Computer Science, and an MBA from Stellenbosch University. He recently completed the Company Directors Course with the Australian Institute of Company Directors (GAICD). In recent years, he has taken on independent advisory roles, providing governance support and strategic input on ERP, BPM, and offshore delivery models.
